A new study found that New York is one of the biggest snacking states in the country, ranking third overall behind only California and Texas.

Researchers looked at convenience store locations, online snack searches, and spending habits to see which states have the strongest snacking culture. New York is home to 7,561 convenience stores including Snack City in the Southern Tier, giving residents plenty of chances to grab a snack while commuting, traveling, or running errands.

Sweet Treats Beat Salty Snacks

The data suggests New Yorkers may have more of a sweet tooth than many people realize. They found that sweet snack searches outpaced searches for salty snacks across the state.Sweet treats accounted for more than twice as many searches as salty options.

Popcorn Is New York's Favorite Snack

When researchers ranked the most popular snacks in New York, popcorn claimed the top spot. Cupcakes finished second, followed by chocolate chip cookies, rice cakes, and walnuts. The list shows a mix of sweet treats and healthier options, suggesting New Yorkers enjoy a little bit of everything when it comes to snacking.

New York's Snack Habits Are Strong

The study found that nearly everyone snacks in some form, whether it's a quick bite between meals or a favorite treat during the day. With thousands of convenience stores, strong spending on food away from home, and a clear love for everything from popcorn to cupcakes, it's safe to say New York has earned its place as one of the country's biggest snack-loving states.
