Drug Take Back Events All Over Broome County On Saturday
Most of us have medications in our household, and we don’t use the entire supply, so many times the left-over drugs sit in the medicine cabinet, or are put into a drawer and forgotten about.
This Saturday April 24th is National Drug Take Back Day, and community residents are encouraged to get rid of your unused, or outdated medicines, by bringing them to the Broome County Health Department located at 225 Front Street in Binghamton from 10am to 2pm.

Johnson City Elks Lodge 4212 Watson Blvd. Johnson City
UHS Vestal 4417 Vestal Parkway East, Vestal
West Windsor Fire Department 9 Karla Dr., Windsor
Broome Sheriff's Substation 146 Front St., Deposit
West Endicott Fire Department 113 N. Page Ave., Endicott and
Whitney Point Fire Department 2665 Main St., Whitney Point.
Speaking on WNBF’s First News Binghamton Maria Fabrizi, the Drug Free Communities Coordinator for the Broome County Health Department said “I think its important for everybody to understand drug prescription safety” Fabrizi says we should never give our medications to someone else, and we should store them properly.
National Drug Take Back Day is designed to provide our communities with a safe and convenient way to dispose of prescription and over the counter drugs.
In addition, the event will have community members on site to provide education and resources on substance abuse, suicide prevention, mental health, veteran support and more.
Narcon training will also be available and free Deterra Drug Deactivation Bags and Rx Lock Boxes will be available. while supplies last.
Fabrizi says medications of any kind should not be flushed down the toilet, it can be a hazard to our environment, and effect our water supplies, and its very important to take these medications to a drop box location (see list below)
If you are unable to come to the National Drug Take Back Day tomorrow (Saturday April 24th ) the following locations throughout Broome County accept unwanted medications for proper handling.

Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday
Drugs will also be collected from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Chenango County at the Greene and Sherburne Police Departments.
