Much of New York State is in for some rough weather over the next day ranging from wind issues up to full-blown possible blizzard conditions.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Wind Advisory through 1 a.m. February 28 for an area in New York ranging from above Syracuse south to Binghamton, Elmira, Corning, Oneonta and Sidney as well as into Bradford and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania.

Forecasters are calling for steady wind out of the west of up to 30 miles per hour gusting up to 50 miles per hour.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

The North Country and Western New York, including Jamestown, Olean and Wellsville are under a Blizzard Warning until 4 p.m. February 28 with one to two feet of snow possible with wind gusting up to 55 miles per hour resulting in near zero visibility.

Buffalo and Niagara Falls are under a Winter Storm Warning until 1 p.m. February 27.  That part of Western New York is looking for moderate to heavy snow accumulating up to 6 inches.  That area is also expecting strong winds with blowing and drifting snow.

New York State Electric and Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric say they are prepared for the snow and high winds with crews on stand-by to deal with possible downed power lines and service interruptions.

NYSEG reminds people to stay at least 30 feet away from a downed line, contact neighbors to see if their power is out if your electricity goes off to make sure if is an outage and not a tripped breaker or fuse then call NYSEG AT  1-800-572-1131 to report an outage.
