Rod Serling Statute to Be Unveiled in Binghamton
If you're a fan of Rod Serling and his work television (and who isn't), then you'll be very happy to hear what they are going to do for the upcoming SerlingFest 2024 in Binghamton.
SerlingFest begins on lucky Friday September 13th and is organized by the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation and this year will be one for the books. That is because on Sunday, September 15th, there will be a dedication of a brand-new six-foot statue honoring the creator of The Twilight Zone.
Imagine if you will, a larger-than-life statue, showing Serling in his famous storytelling pose, set against the backdrop of Recreation Park, near his childhood home. This will be a great tribute to the man who once proclaimed his deep love for Binghamton.
Serling was born in Syracuse on Christmas Day, 1924, but grew up in Binghamton and always considered it his hometown. He once said that "Everybody has to have a hometown and Binghamton is mine."
The idea for the statue began four years ago and after rallying support from the community and securing money, it is finally going to happen. The dedication ceremony on September 15th will begin at noon and will have members of the Serling family in attendance.
The best part is that the statute will be a testament to the impact of Serling's work. His creativity went far beyond The Twilight Zone. Serling gave the world a bunch of live dramas and memorable screenplays.
There’s a really great backstory too. The community coming together, and a successful Kickstarter campaign. It shows the love and respect Binghamton has for the man who put our city on the map.
