Transportation planners have scheduled an informational session about the development of the Route 363 Gateway project in Binghamton.

The New York State Department of Transportation will hold the virtual meeting next week.

State and city representatives have been working to develop plans for reconfiguring the Route 363 corridor leading into downtown Binghamton.

The existing highway was constructed near 60 years ago. One of the goals of the new gateway is to enhance pedestrian and bicyclist safety. Planners say the project also will improve access to the Susquehanna River.

According to DOT spokesman Scott Cook, two alternative designs will be presented. One would cost about $15 million while the other would total an estimated $23 million.

The virtual public information meeting on the project is to be held January 28 at 5 p.m.
