Officials in the Owego Apalachin School District will have to consider their options following the defeat of their proposed budget by voters May 21.

All other districts in the Southern Tier passed their spending plans, even those with tax levy increases that edged near or above the 2% cap.

Proposals for special spending, like the purchase of school buses as well as setting up library districts were also approved.

In the Chenango Forks School District, voters approved putting in a new swimming pool addition at the high school as well as upgrades to other school and athletic facilities at a cost of $28,550,000 dollars.  The capital improvement proposal passed in a vote of 460 to 191.

In school board races, Chenango Forks had a write-in candidate garnering the majority of votes.  Lynn Lockwood’s name was written in for 373 votes to Brian Rullo’s 155 votes and Kenneth Starr’s 124.
