The owners of a popular pub in Binghamton's First Ward are preparing to acquire a neighboring American Legion building.

The operators of the Old Union Hotel are negotiating to buy the Legion Post 1254 property at the corner of Clinton and Grace streets.

The building is directly across the street from the Old Union's three-story structure, which was remodeled after it was acquired by the current owners in 2012.

The Old Union Hotel owners hope to utilize the American Legion building for catering. Under the current plans, the American Legion would still be able to utilize the first floor after the ownership change.

The Legion building has been idle for several months. The structure needs a new roof and other extensive repair work.

The sale of the property is expected to be finalized within the next month or two. The Legion site could be used to provide more parking spaces for Old Union patrons. The business recently acquired more property to the west of the building for added parking.
