If you’ve ever wondered whether college students in New York are more likely to be out late or buried in textbooks, a new study has some answers. And the results might surprise you. The American College of Education looked at study habits across all 50 states to see which students take school the most seriously.

New York Earns an A for Studious Students

New York did very well in the rankings. The state earned a numerical score of 95.11, which landed it at number 10 overall. That score also earned New York an A grade.W hile students here may still enjoy a night out now and then, studying clearly remains a top priority.

How the Study Measured Student Habits

The survey asked students about more than just how long they study. It looked at several things, including how prepared students feel for class, how often they participate, their grades, and how seriously they take study time. Each state was graded on a curve, just like in school, which helped show how students compare nationwide.

State Superlatives Add Some Fun to the Results

The study also handed out some interesting side awards to different states: Mississippi earned the title of Most Prepared, New Mexico was named Best Notetaker, Louisiana took home Best Class Participation, Massachusetts had the Longest Study Sessions, Idaho earned Best Attendance Record, and Vermont claimed Best Grades.

For parents, it’s good news. For students, it’s shows that the effort is paying off. New York may be busy, loud, and fast paced, but when it comes to college academics, students here are showing up and doing the work.
