New Yorkers’ Perspectives on Relationship Timelines
Wondering what people in the Empire State think about dating timelines nowadays? Here's a recent survey by DatingNews.com to see what New Yorkers have to say about dating, marriage, and all things family.
High Standards and Independence
According to the survey, some New Yorkers are all about finding a partner who meets their standards. Around 28% of the ladies and 20% of the guys are like, "No settling for less!"
As we get older, our thoughts on relationships change. More than two-thirds of the people in the survey said they're likely to tweak their standards as they grow older. Older apparently means wiser because we value self-respect and finding personal happiness in our relationship.
Marriage: Timing and Tradition in New York:
Different generations have different ideas about when's the right time to tie the knot. The survey found that most New Yorkers are good with getting hitched around 28 years old, giving them enough time to figure out what they really want out of their relationship.
Family expectations don't really have much say for New Yorkers when it comes to saying "I do." Almost 60% of those surveyed aren't fazed by what their families expect when it comes to matters of the heart. I have to admit that this surprises me a little.
Flexible Parenthood: Embracing Different Family Structures:
New Yorkers are on board with modern parenting. While most would prefer to be married before having kids, there's a good chunk who are open to different family set-ups. About a third of those surveyed wouldn't mind having a kid on their own if they hadn't found the perfect partner yet.
Kids are a big deal for many New Yorkers in relationships and marriages. The average age New Yorkers want to have a child is around 30.
