New York Residents and the 2024 Presidential Election: What the Numbers Reveal
Here is some surprising news about New York's voter participation in the last presidential election. According to a recent study by the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), turns out that our voter turnout hit almost rock bottom.
Voters from the Empire State ranked at a not-so-impressive rank of 43rd nationally. The people at NYPIRG looked at the numbers and found that our voter participation in presidential elections hasn't been this low since 2004.

The study, based on data from the U.S. Elections Project, set off alarm bells about the declining voter turnout in New York State. NYPIRG raised some concerns about this trend and is calling for a review of our election systems. They want our lawmakers to figure out why fewer New Yorkers are making their voices heard at the polls.
NYPIRG is not just stopping at highlighting the problem. They want to bring their concerns to the lawmakers' doorstep by encouraging them to look into the reasons behind the low voter participation.
It's all going down at the General Government hearing and will focus on the State Board of Elections' budget. There have been efforts to improve our election process, but it seems like our declining voter participation is proving to be a major hurdle.
NYPIRG is not holding back and plans on making a strong case for a thorough examination of how our elections are being run by the State Board of Elections. This happens to be under the control of the two major political parties.
I think, the low turnout was that some of the voters decided to stay home because their parties candidate wasn't worth going to the voting booth for. We'll see what NYPIRG discovers.
