6 New York Destinations Named Among America’s Best for Fall Outdoors
Fall in New York State is made for getting outside. Whether it is a walk through a city park, a drive to see the leaves, or a quiet weekend in the mountains, there is no shortage of places to enjoy this fall.
A new study from Trimi looked at 60 popular fall destinations across the country to find the best places for outdoor fun. They considered 12 things, including fall colors, weather, trails, walkability, air quality, parks, and outdoor recreation. Six New York destinations made the list.
New York City Ranks Third in the Country
New York City ranked No. 3, behind Boston and Washington, D.C. That may surprise people who only think of busy streets and tall buildings. But the city has 2,537 mapped parks within 15 miles, the most of any place included in the study.
For New Yorkers who live in or visit the city, fall can mean a walk through Central Park, a bike ride on the Hudson River Greenway, or simply finding a quiet spot among the changing leaves.
Upstate New York Also Made the List
Ithaca came in at No. 17 nationwide. It is well known for its waterfalls, gorges, trails, and beautiful views when the leaves begin to change. Saratoga Springs ranked No. 27, followed by New Paltz at No. 29. Lake Placid came in at No. 35, and Cooperstown was No. 42.
A Reminder to Explore Close to Home
You do not need to take a big trip to enjoy fall in New York State. Sometimes the best fall day is a drive, a local trail, a park bench, or a stop for cider after taking in the leaves. This study is a reminder that New Yorkers have some of the country’s best fall scenery and outdoor spaces right in their own backyard.
