New York City is always fun, but this time of year, there’s something magical about it.

My Trip on a Tank began before the sun was even up and by the time my husband and I rolled into the city, the sun had only been up a couple of hours and the city was still a little bit sleepy, which made it even more exciting for exploring. The hot dog carts were just being pulled out and newspapers were still being delivered.

From Times Square to Central Park, Jay and I spent about 7 hours exploring Midtown Manhattan. We sipped on hot chocolate while watching ice skaters in Central Park, had dinner in Times Square next to a New York Knicks player and spent a ridiculous amount of time in Times Square early in the day when there weren’t many people.

As the day wore on and Times Square began to fill, we found our way to Bryant Park to watch ice skaters. We explored the absolutely stunning St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Grand Central Station and Macy’s, where I wrote a letter to Santa, because hey- you’re never too old to believe!

We checked out the Chrysler Building and Empire State building and saw all of the news network headquarters and where the Late Show is filmed. I stood in awe of the ginormous Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and walked up and down Broadway whistling “Give My Regards to Broadway.” And of course, we gorged ourselves on (what I think is) the best pizza in the world.

If you've never been to the city and think that people there are obnoxious and grouchy, I'm happy to tell you that they're not. Actually, we talked to quite a few incredibly kind people and every one we dealt with was massively friendly.

Jay and I are already talking about our next trip to the city and about taking our son. We’re full of excitement just thinking about all the things still left to see and do and can’t wait to share the experience with John, who we know will be fascinated with all of the beautiful lights and bustling activity.

If you’ve never been to the city during Christmas time, you really need to carve out your schedule. I know that life is busy, but making memories is what it’s all about, isn’t it? I promise you that you’ll make memories that you won’t ever forget.
