New Life for Old Binghamton Automotive Parts Store

A Binghamton building that had been utilized by a car parts retailer is being transformed for use by another business.

A unit affiliated with the company that operates ShortLine-Coach USA buses acquired the property at 29 Brandywine Avenue last June for $200,000.

The building on the site had housed a Carquest store. The site has been unused over the past few years.

The structure is being renovated by workers with William H. Lane Incorporated of Binghamton. Work has been underway for several weeks.

The facility is being converted into a bus wash and maintenance facility that will be used for vehicles owned by Coach USA and other companies.

Coach USA now performs maintenance and washes buses in a nearby building at Eldredge and Liberty streets. It also has local offices in a neighboring buildings.

The existing properties will continue to be utilized by Coach USA after the new facility opens early next year.

Maneuvering buses will be easier at the new building with an entrance planned on the north side off Robinson Street and an exit on the south side to Eldredge Street.

Coach USA spokesman Sean Hughes said he was unable to provide information about the Binghamton project.
