A new law is set to go into effect to sew up a loophole in the Do Not Call Registry.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the Nuisance Call Act which will require live telemarketers to give consumers the option to be added to their do-not-call list.

The measure, which takes effect in 90 days, also requires telemarketers to get a consumer’s written consent before sharing or selling their contact information.

The 2001 Do Not Call Law allowed New Yorkers to opt out of pre-recorded, robocalls but marketers apparently were getting around being banned from randomly calling people by using live employees at call centers instead of automated systems.
