New York Dog Owners Are Singing, Streaming, and Making Playlists for Their Pets

If you have a dog in New York, chances are your furry friend hears music every day. Whether it's playing while you're running errands, relaxing at home, or taking a walk, music has become a part of life for many dogs and their owners.

A study by MetLife Pet Insurance looked at more than 500 Spotify playlists made for dogs and surveyed over 1,000 dog owners across the country. The results show that music is playing a bigger role in pet care than many people may realize.

Most Dog Owners Play Music Around Their Dogs

They found out that 9 out of 10 dog owners play music around their dogs but they aren't picking songs for their pets. 87% play the music they enjoy for themselves not their animals. I actually thought that number would be higher.

Do you play songs for yourself or your pets? According to the study, 14% of dog owners have made a playlist just for their dog, with 13 choosing music based on their dog's personality or mood.

Taylor Swift Is a Favorite

When it comes to favorite artists, Taylor Swift came out on top. She appeared on about one out of every six dog playlists. The most popular song on dog playlists was "Yellow" by Coldplay, followed by "Creep" by Radiohead and "Linger" by The Cranberries.

Dogs Seem to Enjoy the Music

About 28% of dogs calm down or even fall asleep while listening. Another 23% become more alert, while 22% wag their tails. Classical music was the most common choice for calming anxious dogs. For walks, rock music was the favorite genre.

Some Owners Make Up Songs for Their Pets

The study found that dog owners enjoy making music for their pets. Nearly two-thirds of owners say they sing to their dogs. 27% have created original songs just for their four-legged companions.  My question is: How can I get in on this study? It sounds like easy money to walk my dog.
