Most of Today’s Kids Are Growing up Without Toys
When I think back on my childhood I often find myself thinking about the time I spent playing. From my pogo stick to my Cricket doll to my Lincoln Logs and my Barbie Big Wheel, so much of my time was spent playing with some of the greatest toys ever made.
Every time I think back on those memories, I'm filled with happiness and find myself smiling. And that's why I'm on a mission to make sure that my son doesn't become part of the 60% of kids who are constantly glued to electronics. This isn't to say that my boy never plays with electronics- he does. John has a LeapPad and it's amazing to me how much it's enhanced his learning experience, but my husband and I don't set him down with the LeapPad and use it as a babysitter.
According to the Huffington Post, today’s kids are playing with touch screens more than actual, physical toys and I find that sad.
So many of the toys that you and I loved when we were kids are being phased out. Comic books, action figures, board games, and such are being phased out and replaced by electronic screens.
I'm not a doctor or an expert, but I can't help but wonder how much damage is being done to tiny eyes that sit in front of a screen for hours each day. I can't help but wonder how many parents think about the same thing.
