Where’s the Most Dangerous Place in Upstate New York?
A recent study from Movoto let us know that some of the supposedly "most dangerous" places in New York might not be as scary as you'd think. Well that's good news.
Buffalo: Danger or Just a Little Rough Around the Edges?
According to their study, Buffalo took the top spot on the list of "most dangerous" places in New York. Yes, Buffalo has its share of crimes but think about this – it has a population of a little over 250,000. So, there might be some rough patches, remember there are plenty of good Buffalo wings and friendly people to go around.
Rochester and Syracuse: Let's Get the Facts Straight
Next on the list was Rochester and Syracuse. If you didn't know, Rochester had the most murders (42) in 2013. But these cities are turning things around, and their crime rates have been going down over the years.

The Good, The Bad, and Maybe It's Not So Ugly After All
Other places making the "most dangerous" list, include Niagara Falls, Schenectady, Newburgh, Johnson City, Binghamton, Albany, and Utica. Every place has its ups and downs and it's about being smart when you visit. Take the proper precautions and you'll have a chance to experience what every city has to offer
Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover
So what can we learn from this study? Don't let rankings by a study determine what your favorite city is all about. Some cities may have higher crime rates than others, but that doesn't mean they're completely unsafe. Ignore the headlines and find the hidden gems that make these places really special. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
