A recent study from Movoto let us know that some of the supposedly "most dangerous" places in New York might not be as scary as you'd think. Well that's good news.

According to their study, Buffalo took the top spot on the list of "most dangerous" places in New York. Yes, Buffalo has its share of crimes but think about this – it has a population of a little over 250,000. So, there might be some rough patches, remember  there are plenty of good Buffalo wings and friendly people to go around.

Rochester and Syracuse: Let's Get the Facts Straight

Next on the list was Rochester and Syracuse. If you didn't know, Rochester had the most murders (42) in 2013. But these cities are turning things around, and their crime rates have been going down over the years.

Other places making the "most dangerous" list, include Niagara Falls, Schenectady, Newburgh, Johnson City, Binghamton, Albany, and Utica. Every place has its ups and downs and it's about being smart when you visit. Take the proper precautions and you'll have a chance to experience what every city has to offer

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover

So what can we learn from this study? Don't let rankings by a study determine what your favorite city is all about.  Some cities may have higher crime rates than others, but that doesn't mean they're completely unsafe. Ignore the headlines and find the hidden gems that make these places really special. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

12 Of New York State's Most Wanted Criminals- April 2024

Below are individuals wanted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision's (DOCCS) Office of Special Investigations who have been designated as its Most Wanted Fugitives. They should be considered armed and dangerous. This list is current as of 4/01/2024:
