Pennsylvania State Police say Thurinton Harvel, Sr. and Thurinton Harvel, Jr. were outside their vehicle on the shoulder of 81 southbound in New Milford at 3:02 p.m., attempting to put fuel in the tank when they were hit by a tractor trailer driven by 63-year-old Marcus Brumberger of Auburn, New York.

The elder Harvel was pronounced dead at the scene while his son was taken to Wilson Hospital where he had been listed in stable condition.

Brumberger apparently was not injured.

Troopers say the crash, which closed a portion of the Interstate for several hours, is still under investigation.
