A man who reportedly was riding a bicycle was hit by a minivan in downtown Binghamton.

The collision happened at the Susquehanna Street entrance to State Street near City Hall around 8:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The bicyclist, who apparently sustained serious injuries, was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.

Binghamton police detective lieutenant Cory Minor said the man's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. He did not know the man's condition.

Minor said detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The northbound Dodge minivan involved in the collision had a small "Uber" identifying sign displayed in its windshield on the passenger side of the vehicle. It was not known whether the operator of the vehicle was a driver for the ride service.

The right front corner of the minivan and its windshield were damaged by the impact of the crash.

The crash snarled traffic heading into downtown Binghamton.

State Street across from the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena was closed for much of the morning for the police investigation.
