A Binghamton man has been charged with murder in connection with the February death of a Johnson City child.

A Broome County grand jury has indicted 44-year-old Larry Harris on two felony counts. He faces charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

Johnson City police previously arrested 30-year-old Shakia Crute of Burbank Avenue as part of the investigation into the death of Jerome Smith. She has been charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Initially, no charges had been filed against Harris is connection with the February 2 death of the 11-year-old boy.

The district attorney's office made a direct presentation to a grand jury, which indicted Harris last week. The indictment was unsealed Wednesday.

Harris had been held at Broome County Jail since March 27 on drug-related charges filed by BInghamton police.

Crute is still be held at the jail in the town of Dickinson.
