I could feel my heart growing heavy as I read Luke Bryan’s story of losing both his brother and his sister. I can’t imagine losing one of my six siblings, let alone two.

A lot of people over the years have asked questions about the deaths of Luke’s brother and sister and until now, Luke has stayed pretty mum about it, but in the new issue of People Country, he poured out his heart and explained what happened to each of them.

Luke was only five days away from moving to Nashville to pursue a career in the world of music when his brother Chris was killed in a car accident at the age of 26.  Luke changed his plans and put his dreams on the back-burner to stay with his parents who were grieving. Luke was pretty much ready to give up his dream of being a country star after he started working for his Dad’s company, but his Dad could see how miserable he was and so he pushed him to pick up the dream where it left off.

In 2011, Luke moved to Nashville where he landed a sweet publishing deal and record deal and it was when he was working on his debut album “I’ll Stay By Me” when the unthinkable happened. His 39-year-old sister Kelly collapsed and died at home.

Kelly was home with her 3-year-old daughter when she just died.  Luke explained that nobody was ever able to determine what happened- not the coroner, the doctors, nobody.

Luke says he was devastated by the deaths of Chris and Kelly and questioned God more than once, but that he’s now at peace.
