Yard Waste Rules All Johnson City Residents Need To Know

Residents of the Village of Johnson City are asked to pay close attention to the regulations surrounding yard waste management, as part of the ongoing commitment to preserving the cleanliness of the community.

Residents are reminded that the Village does not remove leaves from gutters and the Village also reminds residents to comply with the stipulations outlined in the Village Code to ensure a well-maintained environment. The Village reminds residents to avoid violations such as placing debris on sidewalks or roadways, as outlined in Section 174-3 and Section 240-7 of the Village regulations.

Section 174-3 addresses the issue of litter in public places and stresses that it is illegal to dispose of litter in any public area that is not designated for waste disposal.

Likewise, Section 240-7 specifies limitations on leaving materials on sidewalks, footpaths, or streets without promptly removing them. These regulations are in place to ensure a clean and visually pleasing neighborhood for all residents.

The Village guidelines specify proper disposal methods for yard waste, including grass clippings, garden materials, leaves, and brush trimmings. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in covered cans or untied bags weighing less than 50 pounds, with a preference for the use of cans to prevent the scattering of waste by the wind. By using this approach, concerns about littering can be reduced and the overall cleanliness standards of the village can be upheld.

Residents are advised that the final weekly yard waste collection in the Village of Johnson City is scheduled for Monday, December 2, 2024. Services will resume in the spring.
