A man faces felony charges after a Johnson City police officer spotted him driving a van down an access road leading to the Susquehanna River.

Authorities say 18-year-old Andre Fuimo of Johnson City was accused of stealing the vehicle minutes earlier.

Investigators say Fuimo was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He also was charged with obstructing governmental administration.

A woman called police around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday to report someone had stolen her van. She said she had started the vehicle to warm it up and then went back into her Lester Avenue home.

An officer noticed the van at Riverside Drive and Grand Avenue a short time later. The vehicle drove into a parking lot at Boland Park and then went onto the access road. The driver got out of the van and ran toward the river.

Fuimo was taken into custody after a foot pursuit. He was arraigned in Johnson City village court and sent to Broome County Jail.
