Vestal Shop Owner Vows to Reopen After Fire Damages Business
The proprietor of a Vestal business that sustained damage as the result of a two-alarm fire is looking forward to reopening the place, even though it may take several months.
Glass artisan Carole Perkosky was out of town when she received a call about the blaze on a Sunday morning in September.
The fire had broken out in a house that is adjacent to her business on Front Street.
The blaze tore through the home that was being renovated but firefighters prevented it from spreading to Perkosky's stained glass art studio.
The business - Glass Creations by Carole - sustained smoke and water damage as a result of the fire.
Perkosky said it was "devastating after 29 years" of operating the studio at the Front Street location.
Three weeks after the blaze, she told WNBF News that she's committed to getting the business back in operation.
It's going to be a big challenge. Perkosky said all the glass creations and everything else in the building will have to be removed so the place can be cleaned and repaired. She said the process could take 6 to 12 months.
For now, she said, she's found a temporary place to work. She said she intends to ensure that her customers and students "can get what they need."
Perkosky said she's now working with people by appointment. She said she's "not ready to give up."
While the building housing the studio is to be repaired, Perkosky said the neighboring house where the fire originated is to be torn down.
