Nearly 8,000 People Voted in Broome County Over the Weekend
Several thousand Broome County residents have already gone to the polls, taking advantage of the opportunity to vote early.
Daniel D. Reynolds, the county's Democratic election commissioner, said "we had a busy, busy weekend with early voting."
Reynolds said about 7,800 voters cast ballots over the weekend at the five polling locations around Broome County.
Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Reynolds said "everybody wanted to get out first thing Saturday morning and vote."
Reynolds said the weekend turnout "was about double from our last presidential election" for the first two days of the 2020 election.
The Board of Elections operations in the county office building in downtown Binghamton were affected by a NYSEG power outage Friday afternoon and evening.
Reynolds said there was some backup power in the building "so we were able to fire up a few of the computers." Despite the electrical systems challenges, he said "it worked out" and early voting was able to begin as scheduled on Saturday morning.
Early voting will continue in Broome County every day through next Sunday. The five polling sites will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
Early voting sites are located at the Broome County Public Library at 185 Court Street in Binghamton, the George F. Johnson Memorial Library at 1001 Park Street in Endicott, the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City, the Taste NY Building at Cornell Cooperative Extension at 840 Front Street in the town of Dickinson and the Vestal Public Library at 320 Vestal Parkway East.
