Next Week’s Meeting Could Shape Vestal’s Solar Energy Landscape
Thursday, June 19th (2025), the Town of Vestal released information on a June 18th Vestal Solar Law hearing that was held at the town hall, where residents were invited to voice their opinion.
According to officials from the Town of Vestal, the new Solar Law would allow as much commercial solar energy production as possible, while protecting residents, allowing it in every area of Vestal, but in appropriate ways in appropriate places.
Residential areas would remain residential, and solar energy production for personal use would continue as it is now. Commercial solar energy production will be allowed in areas that are zoned as Commercial Development, Industrial, or Industrial Development.

Officials note that in these areas, large solar farms would be allowed on parcels of 4 acres or more, and smaller commercial solar energy production would also be allowed on smaller parcels and as enhancements to existing businesses.
We have worked very hard, and truly done our best, to ensure that this New Solar Law ensures safety, allows the maximum amount of commercial solar production in appropriate areas, and minimizes the impact on our residents. I want to thank all the residents who helped us in this effort. We have listened to you throughout this process and incorporated your ideas and suggestions. The protection of our residents, and responsible development, is a priority for all of the members of the Vestal Town Board. We believe that this new Solar Law achieves the balance that is necessary. - Town of Vestal Supervisor, Maria Sexton
Residents will once again have the opportunity to speak about this topic at the next Vestal Town Board meeting at the town hall on June 25th. For residents who can not attend, email any Board member to voice your opinion. The final vote on the new Solar Law will take place after the hearing.
