Workers at Endicott's Cider Mill have been busy over the last several weeks preparing the regional landmark for its first-ever spring opening.

The iconic business on Nanticoke Avenue traditionally has opened in early August. But the Cider Mill's new owners - the Burke family - have decided not to wait until summer to launch this year's season.

Although the usual favorites like doughnuts and candy apples will be available at the Cider Mill, there will be some new offerings for visitors.

Hershey's ice cream and some new food options are being added, along with an array of specialty items in a gift shop.

The Cider Mill's Brent Natzle said the season will get underway at 7 a.m. on Friday, May 30. And while there will be plenty of things for visitors to enjoy on the first day, they'll have to wait a bit for cider. That's not expected to be available until August when there are sufficient quantities of fresh apples to start cider production.

In addition to the early opening, the Cider Mill is planning to continue operations a few week later than usual this year. Instead of closing right after Thanksgiving, the plan is to stay open through late December.
