A Broome County man said work will continue to transform the old Red Robin Diner in Johnson City into a new restaurant.

Taimoor Khan of the town of Binghamton acquired the property at 268 Main Street last June for $210,000.

The small diner building, which had been manufactured in New Jersey, has been a fixture at the corner of Main and Broad streets for more than six decades. It originally operated on Conklin Avenue in Binghamton before it was moved to the Johnson City site.

A large red-and-blue neon sign that had been a part of the diner was removed by an Ohio man last summer.

Khan told WNBF News that the effort to renovate the former diner is "still in progress."

Although some preliminary work was started inside the structure last fall, there's been no activity at the site in recent weeks.

Khan said some adjustments have been made to the original design he had envisioned for the future business.

Plans previously outlined to Johnson City officials indicated the new eatery would have seating for 24 people.

Khan said there's no "definite date yet" for the opening of the new restaurant. He has not revealed the name he intends to use for the business.

CORRECTION: The initial version of this article reported the name of the future restaurant had been revealed. The name has yet to be announced.
