Person Facing Illegal Drug & Weapon Charges After Firing Warning Shot At DOT Worker
According to a release from the Broome County Sheriff's Office, on November 25th, a woman from Port Crane who fired a warning shot at a New York State Department of Transportation worker in the Town of Fenton is facing multiple charges.
Patrols from the Broome County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call just after 11 a.m., with a report of shots fired in the area of NY Route 7B near the intersection of Nowlan Road in the Town of Fenton.
The call came from a DOT employee who was on New York State property clearing brush with a Bobcat machine. The DOT employee stated that he heard a gunshot, and saw a person pointing a shotgun at him. He raised a portion of the Bobcat to protect himself and called 911.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office reported that the suspect was later identified as Jennifer Warner from Port Crane, who then waved the shotgun in the air before entering her residence which was nearby.
Responding deputies secured the area, including ensuring the safety of the DOT worker and nearby witnesses. Deputies made contact with Warner, taking her into custody.
According to Broome County Sheriff Deputies, Warner stated that she fired a shot in the air stating “They were destroying my property.” In a search of her residence, a bolt action shotgun and four shotgun shells (one spent) were recovered. Also recovered in the residence was a glassine envelope containing a crystal-like substance, which field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Following the investigation, Warner was charged with:
• Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, a Class D Felony
• Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
• Menacing in the 2nd Degree (With a Weapon), a Class A Misdemeanor
|• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor
Warner was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.
