Going to the movie theater certainly isn't as affordable as it used to be, and now one popular theater will start charging extra for premium seating options.

According to a report by Jake Coyle for The Associated Press, AMC Theaters nationwide will start charging extra for the popular seating choices of movie goers. The new pricing changes have already made their way to some AMC locations, and will be in place at all of their theaters by the end of the year.

The pricing plan, called "Sightline" will charge moviegoers an extra dollar or two depending on where they're sitting in the theater. Seats in the middle of the theater with "value sightlines" will be subject to a bump in price to sit there. Seats that aren't considered "value sightline" seats will remain at the regular price.

Members of the AMC Stubs subscription service will still be able to buy their tickets in "value sightlines" for the standard price of a less premium ticket. The raised prices for "value sightlines" will only apply to movies showing after 4:00 p.m.

As a big fan of the aisle seat at the movie theater, I can't say I'm a fan of this move by AMC. Now all of a sudden I'm going to have competition for my out of the way seats and if I'm behind the ball on getting tickets, I'll have to pay a few extra bucks to sit in a seat I didn't even want to sit in. Sure it's only a dollar or two per seat, but to me it's about the principle of the matter. Add in how expensive popcorn and a soda is and taking a trip to the movies starts to look really rough on the wallet really quickly.
