New York Passes 75K COVID Deaths, So. Tier Deaths Grow

New York State has now passed 75,000 COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic in March of 2020.  According to the daily update, the state reported Tuesday, November 1 another 73 deaths bringing the death toll to 75,044.   

It’s been an unusually deadly few days for the Southern Tier as well with new deaths from COVID-19 being reported in the majority of counties in the region. 

Broome County reported three additional deaths November 1 for a total of 569.  Chenango County had another death for a total of 129, Delaware County lost another resident to the pandemic for a total of 86 and Tioga County also recorded one new death for a total of 89. Cortland County has not added to its death toll since October 12 when it went to 129 lives lost. 

The number of new infections, however, has stayed fairly consistent. 

In the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, there were no new deaths recorded in Bradford, Susquehanna or Wayne Counties for the week and the number of new cases fell back to lower levels from a big spike the week before where Bradford County added over 250 cases to its weekly tally.  This week Bradford added 32, Susquehanna 11 and Wayne 10.

Meanwhile, in her regular COVID-19 update to the state, New York Governor Kathy Hochul urged vigilance as the holidays approach to keep families safe and healthy.  The Democrat says last month children ages five and older were approved to get the bivalent booster shots to increase protection against COVID-19.  She also encouraged New Yorkers to get their flu vaccine as the flu season is already widespread across the state.
