Housing Project at Former JC Phila. Sales Site Ahead of Schedule
Construction on a $31 million Johnson City apartment complex is moving faster than expected.
The 72-unit building is rising at 333 Grand Avenue, a location many long-time area residents may remember as the home of a Philadelphia Sales store.
Construction crews started working at the site of the Homesteads on Grand complex last September.
Tim Browne, project superintendent. said electrical and plumbing work inside the four-story building will begin next month.
U.W. Marx Construction Company of Troy is the project's general contractor. The developer is Regan Development Corporation of Westchester County.
Gabe Regan told WNBF News Thursday the project now is "a bit ahead of schedule." If things keep moving at the current pace, he said construction could be completed by the end of October.
If that happens, it's possible the first residents could move into the apartment complex the following month.
Plans for the project have called for a 6,200-square-foot non-residential space that was expected to be used for a day care center. But Regan said the developers have been having trouble securing a childcare provider to operate such a facility.
Alternative uses are being considered for the space if the day care center isn't feasible.
The apartment complex is to include 27 one-bedroom units, 41 two-bedroom units and 4 three-bedroom units.
