Greene Community Labor Day Picnic Returns for its 103rd Year

A long tradition in the Village of Greene is back following a break and modifications due to the COVID-19^th pandemic.

The Greene Labor Day Picnic is being held September 5 on the Ball Flats in the Village starting off at 8 a.m. with a fire company hose fight.

The schedule calls for the soggy competition to be followed up by a 5-K run (which starts and ends at the Greene Lions Club Park), the traditional parade at 10 a.m., a car show, tractor pull, chicken barbecue, bingo and conclude with fireworks at 8:45 p.m.

There are carnival games throughout the day as well as fair food like cotton candy, hot dogs and sausages and live music throughout the day on the main stage.

The community event in Chenango County is in its 103^rd year.

One of the county’s biggest employers is also planning to be at the picnic with its own special celebration.  Raymond Corporation is celebrating its 100^th anniversary in the Greene community.

Organizers say the company will have an interactive display in their tent with children’s activities, a company truck and a walk through the Raymond Corporation’s history.

Former Raymond Corporation Vie President and retired president of Raymond Handling Concepts Corporation, Steve Raymond is planning to attend.

One of the special musical acts on the main stage is the Voices of Raymond, the Raymond Corporation’s united chorus made up of current and past employees. That group will perform at 2 p.m. just before Elvis miraculously returns to take the stage.

The Greene Labor Day Picnic is presented by the Greene Lions Club.
