Local Leaders Celebrate Funding For Library Renovations
On December 22, 2025, an announcement was made that will benefit the George F. Library, to complete a renovation project.
New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo along with Senator Lea Webb made the announcement that the library has been awarded $99,277 in state aid from the 2024-25 Library Construction Fund.
This allowed the George F. Library to convert a space on the library's main floor into an administrative office for the Director and an office for community social services.
Our libraries are important community resources, providing a welcoming place for residents of all ages to gather. State grants like this are critical to supporting their overall mission. I will be supporting their efforts to create a Teen Space next year, which will better serve a younger generation of library patrons. Thank you to GFJ Memorial Library for being such an important community anchor. - New York State Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo
Next Year, the library's goal is to turn the former library director’s office into a new teen space, which will provide local teenagers with a safe, dedicated place tailored to meet their needs and interests.
Libraries are the heart of our communities. This state funding for the George F. Johnson Library helps ensure it can continue to serve patrons and staff effectively. With the reconfiguration of its main floor to create needed office space, the library is better positioned to meet today’s demands. Looking ahead, the library also hopes to add a dedicated Teen Space, further expanding opportunities for young people in the community. I remain committed to supporting investments that keep these vital community hubs accessible, modern, and welcoming for all. - New York State Senator Lea Webb
According to Lupardo and Webb, libraries across New York State need renovations and upgrade for a total of more than $1.75 billion. Out of over 1000 New York State public libraries, at least a third are over 100 years old, with about 75 percent at least 40 years old.
Strategic planning showed a clear demand for enhanced social services and teen-focused spaces. Thanks to the vital support of our local legislators, we have completed the first phase of construction. By optimizing our footprint, we have not only made a space to expand essential social services, but we've also paved the way for creating a dedicated Teen Space, ensuring our local youth will have a welcoming place within the library to call their own. - Seth Jacobus, George F. Johnson Memorial Library Director
