Governor Hochul stated "Electrifying the transportation sector will enable us to advance our bold climate action goals. We are prioritizing our clean transportation future by installing the largest electric vehicle fast charging hub in the Southern Tier   helping boost the clean energy economy of tomorrow and driving New Yorkers to choose cleaner and greener modes of transportation."

The charging site includes eight universal charging ports and eight Supercharger ports by Tesla for its electric vehicles. The site gives electric vehicle drivers traveling across the Southern Tier on Interstate 86 and Route 17 a convenient location to recharge and get back on the road.

Ironically, the site of the new electric vehicle fast charging station is the same site that once hosted oil tanks owned by John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Co. So it's a fitting place to put a charging station as New York begins to make the switch from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles. It's part of over $1 billion in investments New York is making into clean energy infrastructure over the next five years. In the distant future New York may also require all new cars sold after 2035 to be zero-emission, so investing in electric vehicle infrastructure now is essential in preparing for a lot more electric vehicles on the road.
