Peter King Reflects on CBS News Radio and Broadcast News
This is an important week for journalism in the United States and for the business of radio news. CBS News Radio is being shut down.
The legendary radio network is scheduled to air its final newscast this Friday night.
The parent company announced the decision to pull the plug on CBS News Radio in late March, citing "challenging economic realities."
Longtime CBS News Radio correspondent and anchor Peter King got his start in broadcasting in the mid-1970s when he was a student at Ithaca College at the school's station, WICB-FM. He later worked at other radio stations in Ithaca, Syracuse and Rochester before moving to Florida.
After filing some news reports for CBS while in Orlando, King was hired by the network to be a correspondent and anchor.
On Monday morning, King discussed his time in radio - first playing music, then reporting news - during a WNBF News interview. He talked about the business when he got into it, what's happened in recent years and what the future may hold.
WNBF Radio has served as a Binghamton CBS affiliate at various times over its 99-year history. The station now is an ABC News Radio affiliate.
