Ready To Join The 2024 First Day Hikes At Broome County New York Parks?
Just because the winter season is here, that's no reason to remain stuck inside until the warmth of spring arrives in the Southern Tier.
How about taking a nice hike? Well, if that sounds good, you'll be pleased to know that in January, you can join in on one of three 'First Day 2024' hikes with the Broome County Parks and the Triple Cities Hiking Club.
The three 'First Day 2024' hikes are open to the public, and there is no cost. The term 'First Day 2024' refers to the fact that these three hikes will take place on Monday, January 1st, 2024.
Each 'First Day 2024' hike will begin at 1 p.m. at Aqua Terra Wilderness Area off Maxian Road in Binghamton, Otsininto Park off Bevier Street in Binghamton, and Greenwood Park in Lisle.
According to the Broome County Parks and the Triple Cities Hiking Club, hikes will be divided into several groups for various lengths and hike paces for guided walks in the
park. Each hike will last about 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
The hikes will range from the hiker's choice of 2 to 3 miles at a slower and easier pace, to 4-5 miles at a more moderate pace, depending on the trail. Hikers, be aware that some or all trails may be muddy and/or icy depending on the weather conditions.
Broome County Parks and the Triple Cities Hiking Club recommend that hikers wear waterproof footwear and that traction devices may be necessary.
If conditions of the trail include deep snow, snowshoes may be needed. Hikes should bring drinking water and a snack, for a more enjoyable hike. Also recommended are hiking poles.
For more information, trail layout, and more details of each hike, visit the Triple Cities Hiking Club website.
