Local Initiative Supports Families And Veterans With Food Boxes
Through the partnership of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, Broome County Sheriff’s Office, and Broome County Office of Emergency Services, on November 19, 2025, the distribution of 2,000 boxes of food to Broome County residents was announced.
According to the announcement, food is being made available through coordinated pickup sites to rural Broome County households and local veterans. This is a part of a county-wide response response to support residents affected by delayed federal SNAP benefits, notes Broome County Executive Jason Garnar.
Before full SNAP benefits were released last week by New York State, over 16,000 local families were impacted. With that release, the state of emergency for Broome County ended on November 19, 2025.
