Police are trying to find the person who fired a gunshot that struck a woman in the chest on Binghamton's West Side.

Officers were sent to Oak Street and Gerard Avenue around 4:15 a.m. Saturday to investigate a reports of shots fired.

When police arrived, they located a 34-year-old Binghamton woman in the area with a small caliber gunshot to her chest.

The woman was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Police said she has been released from the hospital.

Officers found several shell casings in the area of 164 Oak Street.

Investigators did not release the description of a suspect.
