Binghamton New York Ramps Up Traffic Patrols To Tackle Safety Concerns
Recently, while approaching an intersection in the City of Binghamton, I observed a motorist ignore the stop sign, barreling through the intersection. Didn't even slow down. Maybe the sign was just a suggestion. Luckily, there was no other traffic at the intersection at the time, or a crash would probably have occurred.
Well, this summer, that will be one of the things Binghamton City Police will be enforcing closely. Today, May 3, 2025, City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham announced that Binghamton police will be increasing traffic patrols with a focus on reducing speeding and stop sign violations.

I’ve heard from a growing number of residents concerned about drivers going too fast through their neighborhoods or running stop signs, putting others at risk. Binghamton Police will be cracking down on speeding and other traffic violations over the coming weeks, with extra patrols focused on reducing the number of drivers who break the law and make our neighborhoods less safe. Alongside foot and bike patrols and other community policing initiatives, this increased traffic enforcement is part of our broader effort to improve neighborhood safety across Binghamton. - City of Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham
According to Mayor Kraham's announcement, City of Binghamton Police will be focusing on high-traffic residential areas, with special attention in school zones, Binghamton city park zones, and hospital zones.
In addition, the Binghamton Police Department will be using a portable speed trailer this summer, which displays drivers’ speed as they pass, to help deter speeding.
