Binghamton Cops Have Monitored Robinson Street Site for Years
A property near the site of a deadly Binghamton shooting has long been a problem spot for people who live nearby.
Police Chief John Ryan said two officers were posted near Pancho's Caribbean Kitchen early Saturday morning when a Binghamton man was gunned down.
The officers rushed to an area behind a Montgomery Street building when they heard several gunshots. 29-year-old Tyshawn Hickman died in the attack and another man was seriously hurt.
A shootout near a purported after-hours club occurred in July 2021. At least one house was struck by gunfire. The city issued a lockdown warning to the property owner in September 2022.
Pancho's Caribbean Kitchen has been open at the site for about three years.

Mayor Jared Kraham Wednesday would not say whether the city had been preparing to take action against the owners of the location prior to Saturday's fatal shooting. He also declined to say whether the business is still allowed to operate.
In an email to WNBF News, Kraham wrote: "Any comment will be through official BPD channels as this is an active homicide investigation."
A woman who said she has lived on Whitney Avenue for three years said she flet compelled to comment on the weekend shooting.
She said "every single weekend from 3:30 a.m. until 7 a.m." Poncho's hosts after-hours parties. In an email, she wrote: "There is barely food served during these hours. They serve tequila and Hennessy based drinks. If they do serve food its very very minimal menu."
The resident said there often are fights and people on Whitney Avenue "partying as if it's a parking ramp."
The woman, who has two young children, expressed frustration about the ongoing problems linked to the site.

Pancho's Caribbean Kitchen was open Wednesday afternoon. An employee told a reporter the business was continuing to operate. She said she had no information about the deadly shooting last weekend.
The owners of the property could not be reached for comment.
