Alright, longtime Binghamton and Triple Cities residents. Let's take another look back in time.

I've been feeling nostalgic as of late, remembering and learning about Binghamton, the Triple Cities and the Southern Tier past in general. Since I'm not a lifelong resident of the area, I find it interesting to learn about the history of this part of New York State.

This time, it's a look back through a video I discovered on YouTube that shows some highlights of local television memories of WMGC/WIVT between 1980 and 1999 from the Binghamton Broadcasters, including video provided by Bob Huckabone and from WNBF's Bob Joseph.

I had forgotten the many people who used to be a part of the evening news from that era, but maybe you remember. This video shows clips from both television station call letters, WMGC and later/WIVT, currently owned by the Nexstar Media Group.

Binghamton Broadcasters

Two news anchors that I do remember, include Bernie Fionte who in addition to working at various television and radio stations, was also one of my co-workers at WNBF. Another anchor when Channel 34 was WMGC, is Randy Cook.

Randy and I worked together in Elmira. He moved to the Binghamton area shortly after I did, working for a time on WAAL radio before heading into television if memory serves me correctly.

I recognize a few other, and maybe you do if you watched television news in the 1980s and 1990s. Take a look at this video of WMGC from the 1980s and 1990s provided by the Binghamton Broadcasters, and reminisce with me as we take another trip down memory lane in the Binghamton area.
