It's summertime for Binghamton University students. The spring semester ended in May.

Every year since 2018, the Binghamton Move Out Project has collected donations of items from students to be distributed to local organizations.

For the most recent project (spring 2025), according to Binghamton Move Out Project organizers, more than 150 volunteers collected over 33,000 pounds of donations from Binghamton University students moving out of their college housing. That's 13,000 pounds more compared to 2024.

Hundreds of volunteer hours have been put in this year's cycle. We're all looking forward to seeing our hard work pay off during Shopping Days, when the organizations find items to better their operations and provide for their clients' needs. We've heard for years how much of an impact this has had for our community. Times are tough for nonprofits right now, and we’re glad we can provide some much-needed assistance - Kate Harasta, Binghamton Move Out Project Shopping Days Coordinator

Tuesday, June 5, 2024, was the first of two shopping days where community organizations shop for donations for free. This year, over 50 area nonprofits, schools, and churches were invited to participate in collecting items needed for the clients they serve.

Volunteers were on hand to assist shoppers in finding the items they needed and loading their vehicles, including clothing, non-perishable food items, furniture, books, housewares, and cleaning supplies, among other items.

According to Binghamton Move Out Project organizers, some sections were set up, including toys, games, sports, holidays, and costumes. Once each organization chooses the items it wants, they are taken back to their organization and distributed to people at no cost.

Local organizations that are interested in participating in 2026, visit the Binghamton Move Out Project website for more information and to sign up.
