Recalls are unfortunately a common thing these days. Food, household products, motor vehicles, you name it, so many products end up in a recall.

But what we don't hear every day, is a recall involving a motor vehicle that says to stop driving it. And that's just what is being asked by Toyota and General Motors for certain older models.

According to the Toyota website, the company issued an immediate do not drive advisory for approximately 50,000 vehicles including certain model year 2003-2004 Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and model year 2004-2005 RAV4 vehicles as part of the Takata airbag recalls.

If the airbag in one of these vehicles deploys, Toyota notes that a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers.

These vehicles should not be driven until a free safety recall repair has been conducted. Contact your local Toyota dealer for details and instructions for repair. For more details on the affected Toyota vehicles, click HERE.

The recall also includes certain Pontiac Vibes from 2003 and 2004. If you think your vehicle is involved in this Takata Air Bag recall, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration web page, and enter your 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if your vehicle is affected.

According to ABC 7 Chicago, Takata used volatile ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate the airbags in a crash, which over time, can deteriorate as it continually gets exposed to high temperatures and humidity.
