With summer behind us, my mind races past the fall season and right to winter. Why? Well, I dread winter, and I know it's coming, but there's nothing I can do about it. Oh well, that's my issue to deal with I suppose. Just a couple of days ago, it was 80, and as soon as Autumn showed up, Wham! Temperatures dropped into the 40s with frost warnings.

With winter weather heading our way in the not too far distance, when do you think we will experience our first snowfall? Will we have a mild winter, as compared to the winter of 2020-2021 when we won the New York State Golden Snowball Award? That was a winter I'd prefer to never repeat again. Last year we came in 3rd place out of the five upstate cities with 81.8 inches of snow, so that wasn't so bad.

Could we see snowfall sometime in October? I remember a few times being at camp in the middle of October, watching the snow cover the ground, only to disappear the next day from warmer temperatures. I haven't seen any indications of a snowy forecast for October, but you know that possibility is never out of the question.
Do you remember dealing with snow on Halloween? I remember a few as a kid. I had an awesome Halloween costume to parade around town I, but it ended up hidden being a winter coat because of winter weather and snow. Now full disclosure, I would have gone out without a coat, but my parents nixed that idea.

Will kids deal with snow this Halloween? In a recent article, I wrote about the upcoming winter forecast from The Farmer's Almanac with their warning to prepare to "shake, shiver, and shovel" in the Northeast. That doesn't sound good. As for the week of Halloween, the Farmers' Almanac says "Trick-or-treaters enjoy mostly fair weather."

I tend to believe that. I used to DJ a Halloween Dance for about 30 years, and most of those days were mild weather, maybe some rain or light snow, but that's it. Never did any of the dances get canceled due to significant snowfall. For this year, time will tell, as it always does. Welcome to the cold(er) season.
