January’s Nonprofit Spotlight: AFSP’s Mission For Suicide Prevention
Ten years ago, a new program was launched by Auchinachie Services called Auchinachie Cares.
Every month, since then, a local non-profit organization is carefully selected by the organizers, donating $1,000.00 to the chosen non-profit for all the good things that they achieve, while letting our community know of the great work these local non-profit organizations do every day.
Check out the many great local non-profits that have been recognized throughout the years on the Auchinachie Cares website.

For January 2026, the nominated non-profit chosen is the Broome/Tioga County Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
According to Auchinachie Cares, the mission of AFSP is to raise awareness and educate our community about the warning signs of suicide, while connecting individuals and families with vital resources and support.
Suicide touches nearly every one of us at some point in our lives, making awareness, education, and compassion more important than ever.
Their Out of the Darkness Walk is more than an annual fundraiser; it is a powerful movement that unites survivors, advocates, and allies committed to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health.
The most recent walk was held on October 5, 2025, at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton and raised over $60,000, going well over the goal of $45,000.
