Inflation Strikes Again: Burger King Closing Stores Across America

If you live in America, chances are you have been to a Burger King and enjoyed a flame-broiled Whopper.

Burger King, which began in 1954 in Miami, Fla, once dominated the fast-food industry. For years, it was the second most popular burger chain in the U.S., behind only McDonald's.

Inflation strikes again as Burger King is closing stores across America.

Burger King was especially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The now third most popular fast-food chain in America had numerous closings and filings for bankruptcy coming from a number of Burger King operators.

Wendy's is now the No.2 fast-food joint, moving ahead of Burger King in their past few down years.

At the end of 2023, Burger King had closed 400 of its nationwide locations. That left fewer than 7,000 locations across the U.S.

In February of 2022, the fast-food chain announced it would undertake new steps to combat the impacts of inflation, including fewer nuggets in each chicken nugget meal.

Although multiple franchisees are closing down locations, this does not necessarily mean that Burger King as a whole is going away.

For the locations that surpass revenue goals, most will likely see an updated menu and facilities.

The new Burger King proposed style change is known internally as the "Sizzle." Buildings will be complete with subtle, sleek walls and orange and red accents.

This is the retro-current style that Burger King will be moving toward in the future with their remaining locations.

So far, the company has not made any announcements on its website or social media about these closings.
