NASA Is Coming To Niagara Falls For The Solar Eclipse

One of the most massive celestial events to happen in years will be seen in the Western New York area next year - so big, in fact, that thousands of stargazers from across the country will be flocking to the 716 to witness it. 

This spectacle in the sky is set to be so huge that even NASA will be coming to the area to experience it. 

Considering this phenomenon is happening right in our own backyard, you’d be crazy not to start making plans to see it for yourself. Here’s everything we know so far about why NASA is making the trek to Western New York in 2024. 

Best View Of 2024 Total Solar Eclipse Is In Western New York

On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will be seen across North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. 

The last total solar eclipse (when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth at exactly the right time to block out all of the Sun’s light) that could be seen in the continental US happened in August of 2017 and was only visible in a few states (New York wasn’t one of them). 

However, this time around, the eclipse can be seen here in the Buffalo area that day, and, even more awesomely, the path of the total solar eclipse will travel directly over Niagara Falls, New York. 

At exactly 2:04 pm, a jaw-dropping darkness will be cast over one of the most majestic natural wonders in the world for a mesmerizing 3 minutes and 31 seconds. 

NASA Will Be Coming To Niagara Falls For The 2024 Solar Eclipse

To celebrate this crazy event, Niagara Parks has announced a partnership with NASA (yes, that NASA) to host a series of events leading up to and on the day of the eclipse. 

Several NASA scientist- and expert-led experiences, all of them free to the public, will be held around the area at venues like the Niagara Falls Public Libraries, The Underground Railroad Heritage Center, The Aquarium of Niagara, and Niagara Falls State Park. 

Nicola Fox, NASA Associate Administrator for Science, said in a statement to Travel + Leisure, 

“We’re excited to be in New York to engage and educate Niagara Falls and surrounding communities about the total solar eclipse.”
