No major traffic issues were being reported, but dozens of schools are off to a slow start for classes due to the first ice storm of the new year.

A thin coating of ice overnight January 7-8 encased cars and made for slippery driving and walking.  Schools in New York and Pennsylvania rushed in the early morning hours to go on one and two hour delays.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton had issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 10 p.m. January 7 to 7 a.m. January 8 with temperatures expected to rise above freezing during the morning hours.

A few minor accidents, some issues with tree limbs and sagging cable lines have been reported as a result of the ice.

Heading into the weekend, forecasters are predicting a real feel of winter with temperatures only topping out in the 20s.
