New Yorkers Brace for Holiday Travel Rollercoaster
The holiday season is here, and New Yorkers are getting ready to spend an average of over $2,000 for our holiday adventures. But let's face it, a lot of us are much more worried about airport delays and cancellations, despite that, would you believe that 85% are saying "nah" to travel insurance. I have to be honest - I've never considered getting it myself either but I probably should.
Let's take a look at the flight chaos: According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the airports with the most canceled flights in 2024 are Dallas/Fort Worth International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia Airport, George Bush Intercontinental, and Portland International.
So, if you are going through any of these airports during the holiday season, you might want to pack an extra dose of patience along with your clothes. Here's another nugget: A third of us have stayed away from some airlines because of past lousy travel experiences. We are not messing around when it comes to smooth trips.
Despite the turbulence, 76% of us are still getting ready for our holiday travels with our $2,017 budgets. Even though we average losing $161 to airline snafus in the past year, only 15% of us are even thinking about getting travel insurance.
So, as we New Yorkers gear up for the holiday hustle, and get ready to conquer the skies and brave the airports, let's remember: a little prep ahead of time can go a long way in smoothing out those travel bumps and keeping our holiday vibes fully intact.
